When it comes to our bathrooms, when was the last time you looked carefully in those drawers and did a complete clean out? Last Spring, maybe? Yes, we thought so.

Liquid foundation, lippy, blush, moisturizer – they all come with an expiry date and for a very good reason. Traditional cosmetics use chemicals and preservatives to keep them lasting longer on the shelves and basically, once the expiry date is over they essentially go off or ‘rancid’. And if you keep using them, it can cause breakouts, skin irritations or worse - an infection!

Each brand and product varies with expiry dates – and natural or organic cosmetics can have an even shorter shelf life due to the natural unprocessed nature of its ingredients and a lack of synthetic preservatives. Also, exposure to air, light and moisture can greatly reduce the life of natural cosmetic products.

As a basic guide, we want to sum up all Inika’s products and their expiry dates, just as a refresher (and so in your face)! Always look out for a ‘period after opening’ symbol on your products for reference:

And please, if you have any beauty product that is out of date, even if you loooove that product, toss it! It's always a good excuse to try something new J

As a true convert I can give you a million reasons why everyone should have eyelash extensions. Anyone wanting longer, thicker, more luscious lashes anytime, any day, would love having them. Occasions such as weddings, reunions and holidays all require high maintenance appearances but there isn’t usually much time for the upkeep. Eyelash extensions can be a life saver for those who have extremely sensitive eyes but want the dramatic effect. And I will not even begin to describe the great feeling of knowing that if I am running late and have absolutely no time for make up, I will always look great. However, no matter all these great features, sometimes even eyelash extensions are just not enough… (Insert “shocked gasp”)... Even though extensions give me enough length and volume during the day, for a night out I crave big, fat, lush eyelashes “the bigger, the better” which is where Inika’s Mineral Mascara comes in. I know, I know, many may ask “why get extensions and then use mascara? Isn’t the whole point of extensions NOT to use mascara?” Might be true, but sometimes extensions are needed to supplement for ones own lack of/little amount of eyelashes. Others get them because they reduce the time of the beauty routine by half, which is my case.

Either way, when I want a more extreme look, I apply Inika Mineral Mascara in Black. For a more natural look, one can use the Chocolate Brown Shade. Not only is it water based (the only type of mascara you can use one fake eyelashes, as others will detach them) but it coats them flawlessly, with absolutely no clumps. Make sure that you apply it only starting mid length or at the tips, starting at the base is not the most enjoyable experience as it pulls your eyelashes.
